PhD student (graduating Summer 2010) looking for a position
Dear Recruiter,
I am doing my PhD in Computer Science (expected graduation Summer 2010) at the University of New Brunswick in the area of Bioinformatics. My thesis
objective has been to map the available (experimentally confirmed) regulatory network of a model organism to a non-model organism. I have used
different bioinformatics tools and techniques and compared them to analyze the results.
Last year I worked as a Summer Intern at the OHSU (Oregon Health and Science University) in the DNA lab after being selected from a wide pool of
applicants from top universities. It is the major research unit for OHSU that focuses on DNA based testing for diagnosis, carrier detection, and
prenatal diagnosis of many genetic diseases. My responsibility involved database management and analysis of their experimental results. My background
in Bioinformatics allowed me to easily understand the biologists and work with ease on the biological data.
I have worked extensively with huge biological databases on MySQL, Perl, Unix and used large-scale high performance computing (HPC) facilities offered
by ACEnet ("Atlantic Computational Excellence Network"). My research and industry experience includes working on bioinformatics tools and databases,
Perl, BioPerl, MySQL, JSP, C, Java and UML. My research experience being a graduate student helped me develop analytical, organizational and
multi-tasking skills and the ability to work independently.
Thank you for your kind attention and your perusal of my attached resume. I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Rachita Sharma
